Thanksgiving Pictures

Image
Okay. As promised, I have pictures of this year's gingerbread "house." If you want a basis for comparison, I have a picture of the last one here , along with stats here . This year's house took over 2000 square inches of gingerbread, at least 4 recipes of hard candy, and 8 pounds of powdered sugar. It measures 49" long by 27" wide by 38" tall. (That's the tower height, which is about a foot over the top of the dome.) So -- here it is. And this is Edgar. I'll probably have a regular post soon, if I can remember what it was going to be about ... nuts. Have a good night!

Thanksgiving Highlights

It snowed! For real this time! Okay. Backing up. Thanksgiving was great fun. Exhausting, but great fun. Quality time with the family during the day -- quality time with friends at night. (Hi Matt, Autumne, Andy, and Kajda!) Some highlights: We had a near-run-in on the drive home with an SUV that spontaneously decided to cross the median on I-35. Luckily there was a fence there -- although I have yet to figure out WHY there is a fence there. I was just glad it existed. My grandparents came out for the holiday, which was super. I haven't seen them since July ... Considering I used to live an hour away and would go to the ranch on the weekends to get away from it all, it's been a harsh adjustment. In any case, it was great to see them again (and my dad's brother's entire family, which is rare, and my mom's sister and brother-in-law, which is even rarer -- it was a weekend full of visitors). The sibs built one heckuva gingerbread "house" over the

Happy Thanksgiving!!

After a hair-raising trip home (more specifically, a three-hour trip to take the 90ish miles from Minneapolis to Albert Lea), my sister and I walked in the door at 1:00 this morning. But we made it! And we were both thrilled. That doesn't much matter right now. We have people here, and I should be paying attention to them. So -- HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYBODY!!!

Yay!

It's snowing! Maybe not much. And it probably won't stick. But that's okay. I Y snow.

'Twas The Weekend Before Thanksgiving ...

Holy holiday rush, Batman. The Season is in full swing and nowhere is that more apparent than the mall. Any mall. Every mall. Even the Wausau City Center Mall, which is admittedly the smallest mall of all the malls contained in cities in which I've lived. Particularly at nine o'clock this morning. I suppose all those early bird specials are there for a reason ... I was there because I had already been awake for several hours and was antsy to get my shopping done. Anyway, everybody and her kid sister (particularly the kid sisters) were out shopping today, myself included. I hope for most people's sake that they all had better luck than I did -- not to say I was completely unlucky, but I certainly didn't finish my Christmas shopping. Seems I might have to do some more crafty Internet shopping this year than expected. In any case, Thanksgiving's coming up fast, and I'm pretty psyched. First because Thanksgiving is a spectacularly awesome holiday (I heart turkey), s

Intensity

Yeah you're blinded by rainbows Watching the wind blow Blinded by rainbows Do you dream at night Do you sleep at night I doubt it -Rolling Stones, "Blinded By Rainbows" It's happening again. I can always feel it coming. Every so often, I have a major crash. It's usually catalyzed by something -- impossibly long work (or school) days, general failure, a lack of sleep ... Sometimes it's only a bad day. In any case, every couple of months, I have a major plummet and it takes about a week to fully recover. There are signs. It used to be that I would want to go for a jog or I'd have serious insomnia. Now, I have the sudden urge to read about Einstein, watch "Pride & Prejudice," and do yoga (yeah, not sure how those are connected). Don't get me wrong -- I get those same urges from time to time during my "normal" phases, but rarely to do all three at the same time. (The insomnia hasn't changed.) I'm not entirely certain why I

Friday Night?

So here I am. I know it's a Friday. I know. I know that, in theory, I should be out doing something. But I don't want to, and to be perfectly honest, I don't think I have any options to right now, either. It doesn't much matter. Yesterday I stayed busy, and tomorrow I will (woot for a garage-warming party), so taking a night off in between isn't really a bad idea anyway. All the same, I'm bored. And oddly energetic. Doesn't work so well for my attempted activity (reading) or for anybody who has gotten a voicemail from me in the last half hour or so (they're long). *Sigh.*
