Bah Humbug


Let it be known that I am trying.

Granted, I could apply this to a lot of different things. I'm trying to take better care of myself. I'm trying to get caught up on ... everything. I'm trying to find an indoor bike that I actually like so I can get better exercise this winter.

So perhaps some specificity is in order: I am trying to summon a Christmas spirit. Just a little one.

It is no surprise to me that it is proving elusive. It has not been a good year, except that somehow I'm still here. Still kicking. Still working, even. (Hey, that's something.) Maybe not attacking things with enthusiasm, but at least still in motion.

So I am trying. I may not be decorating like I usually do and I'm nowhere near being done with my shopping -- I usually pride myself with finishing my Christmas shopping by the tenth of December but at this point I think I've barely started -- but I'm trying. I'm listening to A Christmas Carol and I think I may make fudge in a few minutes. Surely my coworkers will appreciate some homemade fudge, yes?

A Minor Perk

So I've bragged plenty about the fabulous changes in my life in the last few months. I mean, I have a job that's just ... not very job-like. I live in my own little part of paradise. The food's great.   But there are the little perks, too. The things that may have occurred to me before I signed on but weren't necessarily part of the decision itself -- things like health insurance and nearby trails and weather that I happen to love even when it's totally screwing with me.   Enter ... this thing.   This pedometer is a bonus unto itself, as I get straight-up cash from my health insurance company just by wearing it. But what is far more intriguing to me has been what it has revealed. Prior to this, my jobs have required a lot of desk time. Not surprising; engineers use computers. Computers require desks. Granted, my patronization of this site led me to have a Taylor Swift song stuck in my head for two days. Aside from that, I love this one. 2. Pinterest .
